Rod, you were our 2nd entry in the 10hr SOLO in our inaugural event for the Forrest 10hr.
Congrats and thank you.
I love to find out all the hows and why, and your motivation to enjoy endurance mountain biking so much.

Why have you signed up for the 10hr event?

My family and I love Forrest for a getaway each year, we never miss the 6 hour!  The 10 hour gives us (me) more time on the Forrest trails.

What attracts you to riding/racing for long periods of time?

Riding endurance mtb races allows me to escape the pressures of life, it also gives the opportunity for my wife and two boys to get involved with supporting their dad.  It's only matter of time before the tables are turned and I'm supporting my boys....can't wait!

Do you have support, someone to hand you bottles and food?

My beautiful wife Caz and my two boys Tyler and Cooper.  They enjoy it more than I do, the loop courses gives my family a chance  to be involved in this crazy sport of endurance mountain biking.
I've never raced without my family support, if my family couldn't support me I wouldn't race.

You have done quite a few long events, can you tell us a bit about these?

I've done a few 24hrs and everything below.  For me the most memorable race was the World 24hr in Canberra.  I won't go into details as to why only to say as a family we were struggling with illness and some very beautiful friends convinced me to get me back on the bike training a few months before the race and they managed to get myself and my family to Canberra for the World’s.  I'll be always in debt to these wonderful people.

What bike will you be riding and what do you love about it?

I'll be riding my Scott HT.  I haven't owned many mtbs so I'm no expert as to what makes a good mtb.  this one just seemed to do the job for me.  When I'm fit it's a fast bike to ride.

When you are out on the bike for a long time, what are the top 3-5 thoughts that are on a repeat playlist in your head?

I've never been one to have a sing along on the mtb, concentrating too much on the course....boring answer!

What’s your favourite race food/s?

I don't have a favourite food, I live on gels during most races unless Caz or the boys throw a banana or sandwich my way......Caz is more in tune with race nutrition than I am.

What do you hope to get out of racing the 10hr?

What do I hope to achieve......have fun with family & smile a lot as I pass through transition (I'm known to be in the zone and not give my support crew much !) But if you asked my son Tyler, a podium finish is all that's important !!

Good luck Rod, a strong rider, a strong family man, with strong ethics, we wish you the best on May 6th.
