The Forrest 3, 6 & 10hr Mountain bike race.
Saturday 6th May 2017

What is it?
Mountain bike multi lap endurance racing has been around for over 20 years, that I know of anyway!  My first proper mountain bike race was in South East Qld back in 1993 just outside of Brisbane. Options were a 3hr or a 6hr, I raced the 3hr and won!
Point being, this kind of racing has been around for decades, and serves a purpose for allowing friends to race in teams, to enjoy riding solo and to be challenged in a safe, supportive and easy to manage environment.  You are always close to the start finish pits area for food and water and friendly faces.  Family harmony can be enjoyed, with a kids race on at the same time and they get to see you race too.
Food vendors & coffee van is always in attendance too.

In 2016 we mentioned that in 2017 there would be the possibility of a 12hr category.
Over the past few weeks we did the plans, worked out the logistics and decided on a 10hr.
It is all to do with daylight hours, volunteers, our race timing crew, travel time to the event and finally getting the best attendance for all riders for our race presentations.

The Details:

FORREST 10hr event.
The 10hr race starts at 6am.

Registration will occur Friday night at the Forrest Brewery or early Saturday morning with a 30 min window for this 5am - 5:30am at the timing tent. Rider Briefing 5:45am.

Remember - If you are racing the 10hr event which starts at 6am, you will need a front light and rear flasher until sunrise, approx 7:30am

How the race will end?  Any lap completed after 4:20pm will not be counted towards your total laps.  It will be up to you and your support crew to work this out, however simply put, if you come into timekeeping at 3:40pm and laps are taking you 45mins, you only have 40mins to get this done.  So unless you can improve your lap time by 5 mins you won’t be getting that final lap counted as you cross the line after the 4:20pm END OF RACE time.

Normally our events let you get out for another lap if you cross the line even with 1 second to go before cut off, however as you can imagine if we do this, it will be dark by the time you are finished and we do Race Presentations.
**Race presentations will be at 4:30pm PROMPTLY so we are all good to depart the event at 5pm

FORREST 6hr event.
The 6hr race starts at 9:30am.

Registration will occur Friday night at the Forrest Brewery or early Saturday morning from 7:00am - 8:30am at the timing tent. Rider Briefing 9:10am.

And YES, there will be KIDS MTB races as there is every year, normally starting around 11am.
Stay tuned for more info.

No car will be able to drive into the event “pit straight” after 5:45am, as the 10hr starts at 6am and there will be riders on course.
There will be a drop off zone for cars and of course ability to drive in at the bottom of Pit Lane and walk things in as normal.
If you want to park at your spot and/or set up your marquee prior to the 6hr, you will need to do so Friday night or early Saturday morning.

All 3 events will have an absolute finish time of 4:20 pm. Riders that come in after this time will not have this lap counted toward their total.

This is for the greater good of everyone.

Limited Light
Prompt 4:30pm Presentation time.
Allowing everyone to leave before dark.
Add an extra element of “last lap tactics” which makes for a more exciting finish for all.
